Working with the Past in the Present

Center for Research on Society and Culture, Faculty of Humanities, Universitas Indonesia in collaboration with the International Federation for Public History invites academics, researchers, students, PhD Candidates and public history practitioners to an International Seminar & Workshop on Public History: Working with the Past in the Present to be held in Depok, 26-29 November 2019.

This is the first promotion and engagement of Public History in Indonesia as part of the internationalization of Public History initiated by the International Federation for Public History.  For Indonesia, this seminar and workshop will discuss what public history is and how it applies to Indonesia as a new alternative for preservation and presentation in history. The development of this new study is expected to help public historians to better contribute to Indonesian historical activities.  For International public historians, this event is an opportunity for sharing their experiences in practicing public history in their own countries.

About the author

Pusat Penelitian Kemasyarakatan dan Budaya (PPKB) didirikan pada tahun 1986. Pada awalnya lembaga ini merupakan bagian dari Lembaga Penelitian Universitas Indonesia (LPUI) yang pembentukannya terkait dengan kewajiban universitas memenuhi Peraturan Pemerintah Republik Indonesia No. 5 tahun 1980, tentang Tri Dharma Perguruan Tinggi, yaitu melaksanakan pendidikan, penelitian dan pengabdian pada masyarakat. Setelah terbit SK Rektor pada November 2005 mengenai likuidasi LPUI, pengelolaan pusat-pusat penelitian yang semula berada di bawahnya diserahkan pada fakultas terkait. dengan demikian, sejak 2006 PPKB resmi dikelola oleh Fakultas Ilmu Pengetahuan Budaya Universitas Indonesia ( FIB UI) dengan Dr. Anggadewi Moesono sebagai kepala hingga tahun 2008 dilanjutkan oleh Dr. Magdalia Alfian dari tahun 2008 - 2011, dilanjutkan oleh Prof. Dr. Titik Pudjiastuti dari tahun 2012 - 2014, dilanjutkan oleh Dr. Kushartanti dari 2014 - sekarang.
